Training

We train all of our own dogs and puppies here on our acreage. All of our puppies start getting ENS (Early Neural Stimulation) at 2-3 days old. ENS helps to prepare our puppies for anything life may throw at them in the future and one of the many things that sets up apart from the other guys. Based on years of research, the military learned that early neurological stimulation exercises could have important and lasting effects. Their studies confirmed that there are specific time periods early in life when neurological stimulation has optimum results. The first period involves a window of time that begins at the third day of life and lasts until the sixteenth day. It is believed that because this interval of time is a period of rapid neurological growth and development, and therefore is of great importance to the individual puppies.

Starting at 6-8 weeks old, we start formal training with our puppies. Because we use positive reinforcement, it allows us to start our puppies at a much younger age to set them up for a life of success. Studies show dogs learn much quicker and easier and the training has a longer lasting effect at 6 months of age and under. At this stage, we start our puppies on the behaviors that are the building blocks for any use the pup will have later on in life. Sit, Stay, Recall (come here) and impulse control are the behaviors we are training and reinforcing at this stage.

If we keep any of our puppies past 8 weeks of age, they will continue into more formal training where they will be trained as a bird dog. They will be trained to sit and stay quietly while waiting to be sent on a retrieve. Once sent they will go get the bird and bring it back and deliver the bird to your hand. They will also be trained to run blind retrieves. A blind retrieve is where there is a down bird that the dog did not see and doesn’t know where it is. Through a combination of sending the dog in the proper direction and the use of a whistle to get the dog to stop, and the use of  learned hand signals, the dog will be directed to the down unseen bird for retrieval. These are some of the more complex behaviors and the training takes several months.

WE DO NOT OFFER TRAINING FOR OTHERS, WE ONLY TRAIN OUR OWN DOGS!

Puppy Socialization and Head Start:

We believe socialization is very important for all dogs. You want your dog to be well behaved around many different people, situations, and other animals. We always have dogs and other puppies along with other animals to socialize your pup with. They will get taken new places, introduced to new people and new things and groups. All of these things will help your pup to be a better, more well adjusted pet throughout their life. In the head start portion of the training, we start to train your pup on all the same behaviors we train our own dogs for. They will be introduced to Sit, Stay, Recall and any number of other behaviors depending on your focus for your pet. WE DO NOT OFFER TRAINING FOR OTHERS, WE ONLY TRAIN OUR OWN DOGS!

Gun Dog Training:

In this training your dog will again learn all the same things we teach our own dogs. They will learn to be a well adjusted hunting companion. Your dog will likely need some training before jumping right into this program to get them ready but we can get them there. We train our dogs to sit and stay until sent for a retrieve. They will be trained on land and in water. We will start with simple marks and single retrieves and work our way up to blind retrieves where the dog will be able to be directed with hand signals and a whistle to find the down unseen bird. This is complex training and takes a minimum of 3 months on up depending on the dog. WE DO NOT OFFER TRAINING FOR OTHERS, WE ONLY TRAIN OUR OWN DOGS!
